Radiation Safety Officer

Georgia Tech is seeking a highly skilled Radiation Safety Officer to develop and implement the Institute's Radiation Safety Program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of users of radioactive materials, x-ray producing devices, Class 3B and 4 lasers, and other non-ionizing radiation devices.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement the Institute's Radiation Safety Program, including radiation safety meetings and training.
- Manage and implement X-ray Safety Program and Laser Safety Program, including shielding plans and inspections.
- Provide health physics support for radiological science and engineering lab, including consultation on projects, procedure review, and radiation work permit review.
- Perform radioactive material contamination surveys, dose rate surveys, and lab closeout surveys, reviewing and assessing all documentation.
- Manage the radioactive waste handling program, including decay in storage and offsite shipping.
- Manage the dosimetry program, reviewing reports and initiating investigations as necessary.
- Respond to radiological incidents and accidents, mitigating hazards and providing decontamination services.
- Define radiation safety requirements to ensure occupational exposures fall within GT ALARA policy and to ensure public dose limits are not exceeded.
- Master's Degree in Health Physics or Radiological Health or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ten years of job-related experience.
- American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) certification.
- Certified in Health Physics by American Board of Health Physics.
- Ability to pass background investigation as required in 10 CFR 37.25.
