Role SummaryThe Medical Lab Technician is responsible for conducting essential patient testing and performing administrative duties that support the clinical operations within the UNC Healthcare System.
Work ScheduleMonday to Friday, from 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM, with occasional weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities- Guide patients in preparation for tests requiring fasting and address any inquiries they may have.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is well-maintained and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
- Assist in the education of Clinical Laboratory Science students and the training of new staff members.
- Oversee daily operations within the laboratory section or designated work area.
- Engage in special projects or assignments, either individually or as part of a team.
- Conduct a variety of routine tests using established techniques and equipment, including specimen preparation and analytical testing.
- Prepare reagents and assist in the creation of standard and control materials while monitoring reagent levels.
- Document test results accurately and maintain comprehensive records, reporting any deviations to the supervisor or ordering physician.
Education: Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
Licensure/Certification: Candidates with an Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technician must be eligible for ASCP or AMT Board of Certification and obtain BOC within one year. Those with degrees in chemical or biological sciences must have ASCP or MLT (AMT) Board of Certification.
Experience: No prior experience is required.
