We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinary Technician Lead to join our team at Care Animal Hospital of Libertyville. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will be responsible for leading our technician team and ensuring the highest standards of animal care and patient safety.

Clinical Duties:
  • Assist veterinarians with routine, diagnostic, and emergency medical and surgical procedures, including anesthesia, pre/post-op care, and euthanasia as directed.
  • Manage critical care and treatment plans for hospitalized and resident animals, ensuring accurate and timely communication with the veterinary team.
  • Safely transport and restrain animals of various species, adhering to hospital protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Oversee the handling, storage, and disposal of controlled substances, materials, and biological waste, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with other animal care teams to schedule and coordinate exams, procedures, and treatments, ensuring seamless communication and efficient workflow.
Laboratory Duties:
  • Collect samples and run diagnostic tests on a wide variety of species, including in-house testing and storage, as well as shipping samples to diagnostic laboratories, ensuring accurate and timely results.
  • Create and ensure compliance with laboratory protocols, providing training and review for veterinary technicians and staff as needed, maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
Facilities Management Duties:
  • Ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the veterinary facilities, maintaining a safe and healthy environment for patients and staff.
  • Manage and oversee the hospital pharmacy inventory, controlled substances, and medical and surgical supplies, ensuring accurate records and compliance with procurement laws and practices.
  • Maintain quality control, calibration, routine maintenance schedules, and necessary repairs for all laboratory, diagnostic, anesthetic, and surgical equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Ensure purchases are made within set budget limits and in accordance with procurement laws, practices, and ethics, maintaining accurate records and receipts.
  • Manage licensing, inspections, certifications, and permits as required for hospital facility and equipment, ensuring compliance and regulatory adherence.
  • Coordinate the radiation safety program and annual training, ensuring staff awareness and compliance.
  • Develop and implement hospital protocols and standard operating procedures, maintaining a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Supervisory and Leadership Duties:
  • Coordinate schedules, duties, and daily tasks of all veterinary technicians/assistants, ensuring hospital and treatment needs are covered with the facilities.
  • Provide skills training and review as needed to ensure high standards of animal care, accuracy, and quality control, health and safety, and maintain a positive and respectful workplace.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and HR on personnel actions when necessary, ensuring fair and effective management practices.
  • Monitor the veterinary team's effectiveness and efficiency, recommend and implement changes as appropriate, maintaining a culture of continuous improvement.
Professional Collaboration:
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with outside vendors, suppliers, and laboratories, ensuring seamless communication and efficient workflow.
  • Participate in leadership programs, professional organizations, and conferences, staying up-to-date with industry best practices and advancements.

This position requires open availability, including some Saturdays. We offer a competitive salary range of $17.00 - $25.00 per hour, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including paid holidays, work/life balance, PTO, profit sharing, and health insurance.
