Veterinary Technician Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinary Technician Lead to join our team at Care Animal Hospital of Libertyville. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will be responsible for leading our technician team and ensuring the highest level of animal care and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist veterinarians with routine, diagnostic, and emergency medical and surgical procedures, including anesthesia, pre/post-op care, and euthanasia.
- Manage critical care and treatment plans for hospitalized and resident animals, ensuring the highest level of care and attention to detail.
- Oversee the safe transportation and restraint of animals of various species, prioritizing their safety and well-being.
- Ensure the proper handling, storage, and disposal of controlled substances, materials, and biological waste, adhering to strict protocols and regulations.
- Communicate effectively with other animal care teams to schedule and coordinate exams, procedures, and treatments, ensuring seamless operations.
- Collect and process samples, conducting diagnostic tests on a wide variety of species, including in-house testing and storage, as well as shipping samples to external laboratories.
- Develop and maintain laboratory protocols, providing training and review for veterinary technicians and staff as needed, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the veterinary facilities, maintaining a safe and healthy environment for animals and staff.
- Manage and oversee the hospital pharmacy inventory, controlled substances, and medical and surgical supplies, ensuring accurate records and compliance with regulations.
- Maintain quality control, calibration, and routine maintenance schedules for all laboratory, diagnostic, anesthetic, and surgical equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
- Coordinate procurement, ensuring purchases are made within budget limits and in accordance with procurement laws, practices, and ethics.
- Manage licensing, inspections, certifications, and permits for the hospital facility and equipment, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Develop and implement hospital protocols and standard operating procedures, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the team.
- Coordinate schedules, duties, and daily tasks of veterinary technicians and assistants, ensuring hospital and treatment needs are met.
- Provide skills training and review as needed, ensuring high standards of animal care, accuracy, and quality control, health and safety.
- Exercise general supervision of veterinary technicians and assistants, including recruitment, training, performance management, and development opportunities.
- Collaborate with veterinarians and HR on personnel actions when necessary, ensuring fair and consistent treatment of staff.
- Monitor the veterinary team's effectiveness and efficiency, recommending and implementing changes as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with outside vendors, suppliers, and laboratories, ensuring seamless operations and high-quality care.
- Participate in leadership programs, professional organizations, and conferences, staying up-to-date with industry developments and best practices.
This is a full-time position with a competitive salary range of $17.00 - $25.00 per hour, offering a range of benefits, including paid holidays, work-life balance, PTO, profit sharing, and health insurance. The ideal candidate will have open availability, including some Saturdays, and a passion for delivering exceptional animal care and customer service.
