Position SummaryThis role presents an exceptional opportunity to contribute to HFA's mission of increasing homeownership in New York State. As part of the Single Family Operations team, you will provide legal counsel related to mortgage originations, loan servicing, and risk management.
Key ResponsibilitiesYour primary duties will include:
- Maintaining an in-depth understanding of the Single-Family Seller/Servicer Guides and relevant contracts.
- Offering transactional guidance on real estate due diligence, including title reviews and community land trusts.
- Providing legal advice on chattel lending programs.
- Advising on background check processes for new lender applicants.
- Ensuring compliance with IRS guidelines and mortgage lending regulations.
- Supporting legal matters related to loan enforcement and regulatory compliance.
- Conducting necessary legal research.
- Assisting with internal and external reporting requirements.
- Responding to third-party requests for information and documentation.
- Juris Doctor degree with admission to the New York State bar; additional state bar admissions are advantageous.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in real estate secured transactions, including due diligence and mortgage documentation.
- Experience with affordable housing programs is preferred.
- Familiarity with enforcement litigation is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
