Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Chemical Process Technician to join our team at Perma-Fix Environmental Services. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient processing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform waste processing and treatment activities in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Initiate and maintain daily process logs, verifying materials stored and processed for quality assurance and quality control purposes.
  • Handle containers, including palletizing, ringing, stacking, and labeling, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Work with hazardous and non-hazardous radioactive matrices, solids, and sludge, as well as decommissioning lab packs and handling mercury and other elemental heavy metals.
  • Operate industrial processing equipment and recommend management actions to improve standard operating procedures.
  • Initiate nonconformance, incident, and near-miss reporting, and identify and requisition processing supplies and reagents.
  • Interact with facility personnel to achieve departmental objectives and participate in department-level quality assurance activities.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent, with a preference for college, vocational, or job training in a technical field.
  • 40-hour OSHA Hazwoper Certification with current 8-hour refresher.
  • 16-hour radiation safety training with current 4-hour refresher.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills, with a personality conducive to teamwork.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directives, and facility equipment operations level training.
  • Annual respirator fit test qualified and ability to function in all levels of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Written and verbal communication skills, with displays of professionalism.
  • Ability to multitask and apply analytical evaluation to assigned work.
  • Sit-down, counter-balanced lift truck operator's license.
Working Conditions

Heavy lifting, exposure to excessive noise during floor operations, ambient weather conditions/seasonal extremes of temperature, use of a particular mask, air-purifying respirator; Tyvek or other protective equipment required, working with radioactive and hazardous waste to include chemical reagents, use of industrial processing equipment and tools.
