Position Overview
The Nursing Manager II is accountable for the comprehensive management of a designated patient care unit, service, or program as outlined by the Chief Nursing Officer and/or Director of Patient Care Services. This role involves directing and overseeing the operations and activities of the assigned unit/service/program. Responsibilities include the development, implementation, and interpretation of policies; scheduling and supervising staff; and ensuring the quality of care delivered to patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Oversees the provision of patient care within the assigned unit/services, ensuring high standards of care are maintained. - 25%
- Designs, assesses, and adjusts staffing models to guarantee adequate and qualified personnel are available to meet patient demands. - 10%
- Conducts various human resource management tasks, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, coaching, and performance management of staff. - 20%
- Collaborates with the Director of Nursing to plan, develop, and monitor the annual budgets for capital, operational, and personnel needs of the assigned units and services. - 10%
- Mentors, guides, and assesses the educational and research initiatives for the staff. - 10%
- Works with the Unit Medical Director to establish quality indicators relevant to the patient demographic; monitors care quality against established benchmarks and engages staff in performance improvement initiatives. - 10%
- Ensures that appropriate supplies and equipment are accessible to meet the needs of the patient population served by the unit/service. Guarantees that staff have the necessary training to address the age-specific and developmental requirements of the populations served. - 5%
- Identifies, plans, executes, and evaluates various projects aimed at fulfilling patient or organizational needs. - 5%
- Develops, implements, and assesses unit goals and objectives. Establishes, implements, monitors, and evaluates personal performance objectives on an annual basis. - 5%
This position includes direct and/or indirect supervision of staff, which may encompass final budget authority, hiring/termination/disciplinary authority, and performance appraisal responsibilities. The role is considered part of the management team with direct reports.
Educational RequirementsBachelor's degree in Nursing.
Experience RequirementsA minimum of 3 years of RN experience, including 2 years in a relevant nursing specialty.
Licensure and CertificationCurrent R.N. License in South Carolina.
Preferred QualificationsCertification in a nursing specialty is preferred. Previous experience in Nursing Management or Supervisory roles is also preferred.
Alternative QualificationsIn lieu of the BSN requirement, a nursing diploma or an Associate's Degree in Nursing may be accepted if the candidate agrees to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and obtain the degree within four years.
