Position Overview

The Nursing Manager II is accountable for the comprehensive management of a designated patient care unit or program, as determined by the Chief Nursing Officer and/or Director of Patient Care Services. This role involves directing and overseeing the operations and activities of the assigned unit/service/program. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and interpreting policies; scheduling and supervising staff; and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients and their families. Additionally, the Nursing Manager II is responsible for budget management and human resource oversight for the unit, with an assigned headcount of 50 or more personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversees the provision of patient care within the assigned unit/services, ensuring high standards of care are maintained. - 25%
  • Analyzes, monitors, and adjusts staffing patterns to ensure adequate and qualified personnel are available to meet patient needs. - 10%
  • Conducts various human resource management tasks, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling, coaching, and performance management of staff. - 20%
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing to plan, develop, and monitor the annual budgets for assigned units and services, preparing necessary budget documentation for approval. - 10%
  • Guides, supports, and assesses the educational and research initiatives for the staff within the unit. - 10%
  • Works with the Unit Medical Director to establish quality indicators for the patient population, monitors care quality against benchmarks, and engages staff in performance improvement initiatives. - 10%
  • Ensures the availability of age-appropriate supplies and equipment to meet the needs of the patient population served, and confirms that staff are adequately trained for the specific needs of these populations. - 5%
  • Identifies, plans, implements, and evaluates various projects to address patient or organizational requirements. - 5%
  • Develops, implements, and assesses unit goals and objectives, including personal performance objectives on an annual basis. - 5%
Management Responsibilities

This position includes direct and/or indirect supervision of staff, with responsibilities that may encompass budget authority, hiring/termination decisions, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations. The Nursing Manager II is considered part of the management team with direct reports.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.

Experience Requirements

A minimum of 3 years of RN experience is required, including at least 2 years in a relevant nursing specialty.

Licensure and Certifications

Current R.N. License is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification in a nursing specialty is preferred, along with prior nursing management or supervisory experience.

Alternative Qualifications

In lieu of the BSN requirement, candidates with a nursing diploma or an Associate's Degree in Nursing may be considered if they agree to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and complete the degree within four years.
