Job Summary

As a Certified Surgical Assistant at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction. Under the supervision of the surgeon, you will assist with surgical procedures, maintaining hemostasis, tissue handling, and wound closure. Your expertise in anatomy and physiology, surgical techniques, and tissue dissection and retraction will be essential in providing exceptional care.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgeon with retraction, support of tissues, and tying, suturing, and closure of surgical wounds.
  • Maintain hemostasis through direct pressure, use of surgical instruments, and application of chemical hemostatic agents.
  • Identify anatomical landmarks, clamp, ligate, and dissect tissue as necessary for surgical procedures.
  • Remove veins from donor sites for open heart surgery and dissect the common femoral artery for vascular surgical procedures.
  • Respect patient privacy and confidentiality, prioritizing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring ongoing personal growth and development.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Surgical Assistant program.
  • Current Certification as Surgical Assistant by National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) or National Surgical Asst Association (NSSA).
  • 1 year clinical experience as a surgical assistant.
