THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

As a member of the Army National Guard Units, this position is for an Aviation Maintenance Specialist, responsible for ensuring the operational readiness of military aircraft.

Responsibilities
This role is situated within the Logistics sector of an Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF). The AASF is dedicated to providing comprehensive Aviation Unit Maintenance (AVUM), Aviation Intermediate Maintenance (AVIM), and aviation maintenance training for various supported units.

The primary objective of this position is to serve as the Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief), overseeing the operational readiness of multiple aircraft and facilitating proficiency training for aviation unit personnel.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Conducting detailed technical assessments of aircraft mission capabilities and forecasting maintenance needs to ensure aircraft readiness.
  • Managing and executing maintenance, servicing, inspections, and documentation for high-performance military aircraft.
  • Working under complex conditions, including time-sensitive and mission-critical scenarios, which may involve all-weather and night operations.
  • Coordinating and supervising the work of junior aircraft mechanics and certifying the work of skilled tradespeople engaged in aircraft maintenance.
  • Performing damage evaluations and repairs, as well as participating in mission preparation and recovery operations.
  • Overseeing the installation of specialized equipment for unique missions and expediting aircraft operations, including concurrent servicing and refueling.
  • Executing preflight, in-flight, and post-flight inspections, along with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Acting as the technical authority for airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine, and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft.
  • Collaborating closely with maintenance supervisors and production control to maintain current aircraft status and request additional maintenance services as needed.
  • Ensuring compliance with technical publications, directives, and local policies through observation and inspection of work performed by others.
  • Conducting operational tests of aircraft systems and components, overseeing ground movement, and ensuring accurate documentation of aircraft status.
  • Providing technical guidance to flight crews regarding discrepancies and system malfunctions, and participating in aircrew debriefings.
  • Performing inspections of others' work and certifying adherence to established work procedures and quality standards.
  • Participating in Maintenance Test Flights as a crewmember or Technical Observer (TO) as required.
  • Making informed decisions to maintain aircraft readiness and ensure that maintenance performed meets the highest safety and quality standards.
  • Planning and conducting proficiency training sessions for a diverse workforce, including Full Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel.
  • Evaluating training effectiveness through observation and continuous assessment of personnel skill levels.
  • Engaging in various readiness evaluations, inspections, and support exercises.
  • Performing additional duties as necessary, including structural firefighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Traveling in military aircraft and operating military vehicles/equipment as required.

Complying with safety, fire, security, environmental, and housekeeping regulations is essential, along with ensuring that materials and equipment are properly maintained and safeguarded.

Qualifications

General Experience: Must possess experience or training in the installation, adjustment, alignment, troubleshooting, and functional testing of major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on aircraft during overhaul or modification.

Experience in coordinating the work of other mechanics and scheduling maintenance to ensure critical actions are completed efficiently is essential.

Specialized Experience: To qualify for this position, applicants must hold a FAA license with a rating of airframe and power plant.
