Job Title: Nursing Assistant PCU

Job Summary:

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Nursing Assistant to join our team in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at the Northeast Ohio VA Healthcare System. As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the overall success of our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient-centered care to residents/patients with physical and/or behavioral problems in a hospital, long-term care, or outpatient setting.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including serving meals, feeding dependent patients, and assisting patients with meals, including dysphagia patients.
  • Ambulate patients, including the use of assistive devices, and turn and position patients to prevent skin breakdown.
  • Complete hourly rounds on patients to assist with needs such as comfort, reporting pain to the RN, toileting, and assisting with getting out of bed or turning/positioning and preventing falls.
  • Provide patients' personal hygiene by assisting with bathing, showering, shampooing, shaving, dressing, and toileting.
  • Utilize safe patient handling equipment for proper repositioning and/or transferring of veterans.
  • Participate in safety huddles and bedside rounds.
  • Take and document vital signs, blood sugar checks, weights, intake and output, and report abnormal values immediately to the covering nurse.
  • Use and maintain telemetry boxes and EKG machines, and report difficulties to management.
Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education or Training: Six months of general experience, or one year of education above high school with courses related to the NA occupation, or completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related training course of study or program of less than one year as a NA.
  • English Language Proficiency: Nursing Assistants must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Policy.
Work Schedule:

Full-time, day/evening shift rotation with alternating weekends and holidays.
