Job Title: Nursing Assistant PCU

Job Summary:

The Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is seeking a highly skilled Nursing Assistant to join our team in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the overall success of our healthcare team.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide patient-centered care, including assisting with activities of daily living, serving meals, and feeding patients as ordered by the provider.
  • Ambulate patients, including the use of assistive devices, and turn and position patients to prevent skin breakdown.
  • Complete hourly rounds to assist with patient needs, such as comfort, reporting pain to the RN, toileting, and preventing falls.
  • Provide personal hygiene assistance, including bathing, showering, shampooing, shaving, dressing, and toileting.
  • Utilize safe patient handling equipment for proper repositioning and/or transferring of patients.
  • Participate in safety huddles and bedside rounds.
  • Take and document vital signs, blood sugar checks, weights, intake and output, and report abnormal values to the covering nurse.
  • Use and maintain telemetry boxes and EKG machines, and report difficulties to management.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position with a day/evening shift rotation, alternating weekends and holidays.

Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship
  • Education or Training: 2 years above high school with courses related to nursing care, health care, or a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position.
  • English Language Proficiency
  • Ability to provide a range of patient/resident care and contribute to the completion of the nurse care plan and recovery of patients/residents.
  • Ability to observe patients/residents' or resident's physical or emotional status and refer deviations and/or problems to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Ability to properly use equipment, materials, and supplies in simple diagnostic and treatment procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients/residents, their families, and other health professionals.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.
