About the Role

As a Surgical Assistant at Christus Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our surgical teams in delivering high-quality patient care. This position requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during surgical procedures, ensuring a safe and efficient operation.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies, adhering to strict sterile protocols.
  • Provide exposure, hemostasis, and closure support to the surgical team, utilizing manual and topical methods as needed.
  • Apply appropriate energy sources, manipulate and dissect tissues, and aid in implanting, securing, and removing devices and drains.
  • Apply dressing materials, including splints and casts, as required.
Additional Duties
  • Perform vein and graft harvesting, and graft and implant preparation, under the supervision of a surgeon.
  • Assist with other procedures as delegated by the surgeon, in accordance with state and local policy.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical First Assistant Program, State Board accredited Vocational School of Nursing, or Graduate of School of Surgical Technology.
  • Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications as required by the state and local authorities.
