Job Overview: Construction Site Engineer (Heavy Civil Projects)
Purpose
The Construction Site Engineer plays a crucial role in assisting the Project Engineer and Project Superintendent. The primary objectives include monitoring production, planning operations, and effectively managing project data.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with foremen and superintendents to ensure that operational plans are monitored and optimized for maximum efficiency in field activities.
- Track, maintain, and report daily installed quantities and performance metrics.
- Evaluate and compare planned versus actual production rates and material yields.
- Conduct quantity take-offs from project plans and reconcile weekly field quantities with planned quantities.
- Support the creation of Work Activity Plans.
- Generate monthly quantity reports to verify owner quantities and facilitate billing processes.
- Assist in ensuring that field operations adhere to project standards and specifications.
- Provide necessary support to project engineers and superintendents as needed.
- Organize and maintain Plan Drawings, Revisions, and As-Builts.
- Help maintain all Project Logs.
- Assess and monitor ordered quantities against the materials budget.
- Keep the Notevault Diary updated and provide schedule revisions to the Project Engineer.
- Initiate and manage Field Operations Reports.
- Develop Look Ahead Schedules in collaboration with the project superintendent.
- Effectively communicate information in both one-on-one and small group settings, including interactions with managers and team members.
- Read and interpret various documents such as safety regulations, Operating and Maintenance Instructions, Procedure Manuals, Contracts, Subcontracts, and Purchase Orders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Proficient in Primavera 3 and 6.
- Strong skills in MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to multitask, self-motivate, and demonstrate a commitment to quality in construction.
- Competence in applying basic algebra and geometry, along with Construction Math principles.
- Valid driver's license for occasional travel as required.
- Ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Capability to interpret a wide range of technical instructions in both mathematical and diagrammatic forms.
- Moderate physical activity required, with some exposure to outdoor conditions.
- Ability to navigate minor obstacles at construction sites.
- Manual dexterity sufficient for handling items and performing tasks.
