Job Overview: Construction Site Engineer (Heavy Civil Projects)

Purpose

The Construction Site Engineer plays a crucial role in assisting the Project Engineer and Project Superintendent. The primary objectives include monitoring production, planning operations, and effectively managing project data.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Work closely with foremen and superintendents to ensure that operational plans are monitored and optimized for maximum efficiency in field activities.
  2. Track, maintain, and report daily installed quantities and performance metrics.
  3. Evaluate and compare planned versus actual production rates and material yields.
  4. Conduct quantity take-offs from project plans and reconcile weekly field quantities with planned quantities.
  5. Support the creation of Work Activity Plans.
  6. Generate monthly quantity reports to verify owner quantities and facilitate billing processes.
  7. Assist in ensuring that field operations adhere to project standards and specifications.
  8. Provide necessary support to project engineers and superintendents as needed.
  9. Organize and maintain Plan Drawings, Revisions, and As-Builts.
  10. Help maintain all Project Logs.
  11. Assess and monitor ordered quantities against the materials budget.
  12. Keep the Notevault Diary updated and provide schedule revisions to the Project Engineer.
  13. Initiate and manage Field Operations Reports.
  14. Develop Look Ahead Schedules in collaboration with the project superintendent.
  15. Effectively communicate information in both one-on-one and small group settings, including interactions with managers and team members.
  16. Read and interpret various documents such as safety regulations, Operating and Maintenance Instructions, Procedure Manuals, Contracts, Subcontracts, and Purchase Orders.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  2. Proficient in Primavera 3 and 6.
  3. Strong skills in MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
  4. Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  5. Ability to multitask, self-motivate, and demonstrate a commitment to quality in construction.
  6. Competence in applying basic algebra and geometry, along with Construction Math principles.
  7. Valid driver's license for occasional travel as required.
  8. Ability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  9. Capability to interpret a wide range of technical instructions in both mathematical and diagrammatic forms.
  10. Moderate physical activity required, with some exposure to outdoor conditions.
  11. Ability to navigate minor obstacles at construction sites.
  12. Manual dexterity sufficient for handling items and performing tasks.
