Job Overview

General Summary:

The Retail Operations Executive is responsible for steering the leadership and strategic direction of Goodwill Industries of South Mississippi's retail operations to achieve revenue and margin objectives that align with our strategic goals. This role involves mentoring and guiding retail management across all operational facets, including sales performance, margin enhancement, customer satisfaction, employee development, and asset safeguarding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs, mentors, and develops Regional and Retail Managers to make informed business decisions, pursue results, and cultivate their teams.
  • Empowers management to take ownership of their respective operations.
  • Formulates and executes annual budgets, recommending operational enhancements for effective reporting and workflow, while monitoring performance through result analysis.
  • Conducts regular visits to retail locations to assess performance, address labor issues, and provide guidance.
  • Evaluates store compliance with organizational policies and standards to ensure exceptional service, product availability, quality production, and a safe, clean environment.
  • Oversees retail development in collaboration with the Regional Manager to identify talent pipelines and succession plans.
  • Works with HR to boost employee engagement, implement effective performance management, and reduce turnover.
  • Collaborates with facilities management on maintenance, renovations, new store openings, and donation centers.
  • Partners with HR to develop proactive safety and loss prevention strategies.
  • Monitors supply chain logistics in conjunction with transportation to manage costs and inventory levels.
  • Maximizes the value of donations and ensures proper product distribution to sustain revenue streams.
  • Promotes the Goodwill organization within the community to enhance its public image and garner support for its mission.
  • Reviews, updates, and drafts retail policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Encourages process improvement practices that enhance efficiency and profitability.
  • Analyzes retail sales trends and directs growth strategies in existing markets, focusing on improving revenue per square foot, average sales, and transaction volumes. Prepares retail reports and analyses as needed.
  • Consistently performs all duties in alignment with our Core Values.
  • Participates in assigned training sessions.
  • Undertakes additional duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional communication skills for negotiation, influence, and consensus-building across all levels of the organization, including employees, customers, vendors, and agencies.
  • Strong financial management abilities to gather, analyze, project, and convey sales and production data effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of retail operations and a commitment to delivering high-quality customer service through an efficient labor model.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, identify, analyze, and assess details.
  • Physical ability to navigate facilities and lift, push, or pull up to 25 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and evenings, as required by job demands.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or a comparable 10 years of related experience. An MBA is preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in multi-unit retail management, including overseeing new store openings.
