Position Summary: LFCD is in search of a qualified Vocational ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor who possesses a valid California Teaching Credential. This role aims to support non-English and Limited English Proficiency participants in various assistance programs by imparting essential vocational English skills. The instructor will employ SPL (Support for Personalized Learning) and MELT (Models of Engaged Learning and Teaching) methodologies, while also providing foundational computer skills training and workplace readiness workshops. The position entails multi-level ESL classroom instruction and pre-employment services tailored to meet the immediate needs of students. The instructor will work closely with the employment department to facilitate pre-employment and job search workshops. Classes are designed with an open-entry, open-exit format, accommodating up to 50 students. The ESL Instructor will report to the Program Coordinator and will be based at the organization's headquarters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement ESL lesson plans that empower diverse adult learners to achieve their career aspirations. Lesson plans should integrate basic computer skills training and workplace readiness components, utilizing visual aids, assigning homework, and providing a list of resources such as educational websites.
  • Engage with local businesses and educational institutions to organize practical field trips, allowing participants to apply their language and job skills in real-world contexts, explore employment opportunities, and navigate public transportation.
  • Conduct orientations and assessments; provide basic case management, maintain regular follow-ups with students to encourage progress, and accurately track and report attendance to the employment team.
  • Collaborate with employment teams and training programs to recommend suitable candidates for job openings and facilitate access to additional training and educational resources.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports to the Director of Programs and/or Program Coordinator.
  • Contribute to the agency's goal of achieving CARF accreditation and support the fulfillment of strategic objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education is required; TOEFL certification is preferred; bilingual abilities are advantageous; a minimum of 1 year of experience in teaching adult learners with diverse needs is essential.
  • Proven knowledge of ESL instructional techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, with a willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database management, and Internet Explorer.
  • A valid California Driver's License, a clean driving record, and proof of current auto insurance and registration are required; successful completion of a background check is mandatory.
  • The physical demands of this position require the ability to sit and work on a computer, handle objects up to 25 pounds, and communicate effectively.

Compensation: Salary will be determined based on experience and educational background.
