Position Summary: LFCD is in search of a qualified Vocational ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor who possesses a valid California Teaching Credential. This role is crucial in assisting non-English speaking and Limited English Proficiency individuals, particularly those enrolled in CalWORKs, RCA, GA, and CalFresh programs. The instructor will focus on delivering Vocational ESL skills aligned with SPL (Support for Personalized Learning) and MELT (Models of Engaged Learning and Teaching) methodologies. In addition, the instructor will facilitate basic computer skills training and conduct workshops aimed at enhancing workplace readiness. This position entails multi-level ESL classroom instruction and pre-employment services tailored to meet the immediate needs of students. The instructor will collaborate with the employment department to organize relevant workshops for job search preparation. Classes will follow an open-entry, open-exit format, accommodating up to 50 students. The VESL Instructor will report directly to the Program Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement engaging ESL lesson plans that empower adult learners with varying language proficiencies to achieve their career aspirations. Lesson plans should incorporate components for basic computer skills and workplace readiness, including visual aids, homework assignments, and resource recommendations.
  • Partner with local businesses, job training programs, and educational institutions to arrange monthly field trips, enabling participants to apply their language and job skills in real-world environments while exploring potential career opportunities.
  • Conduct student orientations and assessments; provide essential case management, maintain regular follow-ups to encourage student progress, and accurately track and report attendance to the employment team.
  • Work collaboratively with employment teams and educational institutions to identify suitable candidates for job openings and facilitate access to additional training and educational resources.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports to the Director of Programs and/or Program Coordinator.
  • Contribute to the agency's objective of achieving Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accreditation and support the fulfillment of strategic goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education is required; TOEFL certification is preferred; bilingual proficiency is an asset; a minimum of one year of experience in teaching adult learners with multi-level course planning is essential.
  • Proven expertise in VESL instructional methodologies.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and collaborate within a team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, with a willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Proficient in computer applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, a clean driving record, and current auto insurance; successful completion of a background check is required.
  • The physical demands of this position include the ability to sit for extended periods, operate a computer, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and educational background.
