Job Summary:

As an Inpatient Coder at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient data. Under direct supervision, you will be responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient cases or services, utilizing your knowledge of ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding classification systems. Your attention to detail and ability to work independently will be essential in meeting productivity and quality standards established for the position.

Key Responsibilities:

Review medical record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures to be coded

Independently organize and prioritize work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding

Code all appropriate diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding classification systems

Determine the appropriate DRG for each case and review DRG discrepancies to ensure accurate grouping

Verify and abstract data from medical records to meet requirements for data submission and reporting

Requirements:

Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years

High School Diploma or GED and demonstrated completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, current ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, and CPT coding conventions, and disease process from an accredited program

Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, or Registered Health Information Administrator certification

Basic knowledge of computer keyboard and mouse usage

Ability to meet productivity and quality standards established for the position
