Compensation
The estimated annual salary for this role is $150,000 - $180,000, including competitive base pay and regional bonus opportunities. In addition, we offer an industry-leading benefit plan, including paid time off, holidays, and shutdowns, as well as a 401K plan with company match and additional contribution.
About the Role
This position involves managing a portfolio of R&D projects using applied scientific and engineering principles in advanced engineering and manufacturing technologies. The ideal candidate will have expertise in areas such as Additive Manufacturing, design and manufacture of battery cells and components, efficiency improvement using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence methodologies, and emerging manufacturing technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of research projects, independently manage technical program resources, and maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with external research partners to leverage outside expertise and capabilities.
- As a Subject Matter Expert, foster development of new research areas, proposing and leading all aspects of new activities independently.
- Identify root causes of highly technical and multidisciplinary problems and develop plans, designs, test systems, materials, techniques, and processes to achieve objectives.
Requirements
- Ph.D. with 3 years or B.S./M.S. with 6 years of experience or relevant experience in science/engineering research capacity.
- 3 or more years of experience in Other Job-Specific Skills.
- Possess passion for research, solving hard problems, and challenging the status quo.
- Ability to learn new topics and apply principles to design and manufacturing challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams.
- Design experiments to test hypotheses and prove them out.
- Confidently make autonomous decisions bounded by the research mission and understanding of the company business model.
- Clearly communicate new research and technology concepts and ideas to technical team members and management.
- Scientifically analyze data provided from tests and experiments to gather knowledge and understanding of the subject of research.
- Oversee overall research project schedule, budget, and direction.
