Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Specialist to join our team. As a Substance Abuse Specialist, you will play a critical role in developing, organizing, and conducting programs to provide education for conditions and problems relating to drug and alcohol abuse.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement substance abuse education programs
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions
- Provide relevant substance abuse information for class curriculum
- Facilitate or co-facilitate didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions
- Select and recommend new instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse program
- Maintain knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse
- Maintain a collegian relationship with other substance abuse professionals, programs, and associations
- Complete required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required
- Participate in related training for substance abuse
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in counseling, substance abuse, or a related field from an accredited institution along with ninety (90) clock hours of education and training in the area of alcohol, drug, and counseling
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- Must have arranged for appropriate supervision, including an experience plan
- Working knowledge of the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous
- Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings
- Personal commitment to uphold and adhere to the Code of Ethics as outlined by the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department
