Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Specialist to join our team. As a Substance Abuse Specialist, you will play a critical role in developing, organizing, and conducting programs to provide education for conditions and problems relating to drug and alcohol abuse.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement substance abuse education programs
• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions
• Provide relevant substance abuse information for class curriculum
• Facilitate or co-facilitate didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions
• Select and recommend new instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse program
• Maintain knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse
• Maintain a collegian relationship with other substance abuse professionals, programs, and associations
• Complete required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required
• Participate in related training for substance abuse
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Associate degree in counseling, substance abuse, or a related field from an accredited institution along with ninety (90) clock hours of education and training in the area of alcohol, drug, and counseling
• Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
• Must have arranged for appropriate supervision, including an experience plan
• Working knowledge of the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous
• Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings
• Personal commitment to uphold and adhere to the Code of Ethics as outlined by the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department
