Job Description

As a Research Engineer - Video Tone Mapping Specialist at Apple, you will be responsible for developing novel tone mapping algorithms to improve the image and video quality of Apple's camera systems. You will work closely with the Camera Algorithm Tone Mapping team to deliver real-time algorithms that meet the highest standards of image quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement tone mapping algorithms using high-level software languages such as Matlab or Python
  • Collaborate with hardware design teams to develop new image processing blocks that improve image quality
  • Influence the artistic look of Apple cameras across different product categories and modalities
  • Define and develop feature proposals for different use cases targeting consumer and professional markets

Requirements:

  • BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
  • Track record of developing image processing algorithms, such as auto white balance, tone mapping, auto exposure, and high dynamic range capture
  • Validated coding skills in Matlab or Python

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with a digital camera image processing pipeline and the Image Signal Processor (ISP)
  • Understanding of image quality metrics and subjective evaluations
  • Proven knowledge of HDR encoding standards
  • Prior experience with professional video content postproduction and color grading workflows
  • Curiosity about vision science and/or color science
  • Programming skills in C/C++
  • Exposure to machine learning algorithms
  • Passion for photography and videography
