Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior AI Research Scientist to expand the horizons of our technology as we work to accelerate the decarbonization of the electricity system. This role involves applied research, and the ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of forecasting techniques and the ability to develop and apply them to energy markets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a deep understanding of mathematics and mechanisms of energy markets to discover and adapt appropriate methods to solve specific problems.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advances in machine learning research to consider new methods for problems in the electricity market space.
  • Generalize and unify problem frameworks across electricity markets.
  • Design, perform, and analyze experiments for new machine learning techniques, as well as consult on those tasks for others on the ML team.
  • Apply cutting-edge machine learning techniques to problems in the energy space.
  • Promote probabilistic thinking and rigor in statistical testing across the company.
  • Mentor machine learning engineers on modeling and communication of results, including for publication.
  • Author research papers in the fields of generative modeling, forecasting, and decision making under uncertainty.
  • Write, optimize, and review code, with attention to performance and readability.
Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience conducting basic or applied machine learning research.
  • A strong publication record in top-tier conferences and journals, such as NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, and CV/NLP/Speech venues.
  • A PhD in machine learning, statistics, or a related quantitative modeling field.
  • Deep knowledge of math, probability, statistics, and algorithms.
  • Proven experience researching and implementing relevant machine learning models.
  • Ability to write robust code in Python.
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and libraries, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, and scikit-learn.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent mentorship, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and a strong desire to make a difference in the field of clean energy.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary of $220,000 - $280,000 per year, as well as a hybrid policy of 50% in-office work. We value the ability to work and collaborate in-person in our early stage as a startup. We start with 1-2 initial conversations about the role, your past experience, and Gridmatic as a company, followed by a skills assessment and onsite interviews with the team.
