Palmetto State Armory L is seeking a highly skilled Product Development Engineer II to join our team. As a key member of our Product Development team, you will be responsible for providing engineering contributions to firearm product development activities, researching and developing ideas for new products and existing product lines.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Design Support: Provide technical design support and contributions to the Product Development team, including owning product design and performance for current and previously created products.
- Product Design and Development: Create new or improved designs based on product specifications, cost targets, and development timelines, and contribute to the development of complex complete firearms systems.
- Prototype Building and Testing: Contribute to Product Development team with prototype building, testing, and reporting to ensure products meet requirements.
- CAD Modeling and Drawing: Generate CAD models and drawings ensuring functional dimensioning scheme with appropriate tolerancing schemes.
- Tolerance Studies and QAP Identification: Contribute to and lead Product Development team with tolerance studies and QAP identification.
- Intellectual Property Development: Develop and support Intellectual Property through patent searches, patent applications, and trade studies.
- Supplier Collaboration: Organize and support with internal and external suppliers to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing at scale.
- Design Validation and Improvement: Provide support and lead testing to diagnose and improve designs in development and validate production product.
- Production Support: Support production, quality, and supply chain in initial manufacturing ramp up of new product.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work interdepartmentally to provide technical assistance and continually improve operations and grow our business.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 2+ years of design engineering experience; firearm development experience of handguns, MSRs, or other long guns preferred.
- Technical Skills: High level knowledge of SolidWorks and/or other 3D CAD software, high level understanding of drawing creation including creating functional dimensioning schemes and appropriate GD&T.
- Firearm Knowledge: High level understanding of one or more firearm or component types; Expert level understanding preferred.
- Design for Manufacturing: Working understanding of design for manufacturing for three or more manufacturing techniques and high-level understanding of one of the following: polymer injection molding, metal injection molding, machining, stamping, casting, forging, springs, etc. preferred.
- Measurement and Analysis: Hand measurement experience with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and additional equipment preferred, working understanding of performing tolerance stack analyses preferred.
- Communication and Problem-Solving: Ability to communicate effectively with executive management and work group, strong analytical problem-solving skills with sound decision making ability.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication both orally and written, positive attitude, goal driven, and focused on the overall strategic picture of the organization.
- Computer Skills: Proficient skills with computers, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
