Job Summary

The Plug Grower is a key member of our team at Dan & Jerry's Greenhouses, responsible for participating in plug growing activities and working closely with the Head Grower and Growing Team to ensure high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage assigned plugs in a controlled environment, maintaining optimal conditions for growth and development.
  • Determine nutrient and moisture requirements for each plant variety, ensuring the health and well-being of all plants.
  • Collaborate with the Head Grower to manage lights and temperatures, achieving finish dates while maintaining quality standards.
  • Enforce quality standards, ensuring all crops meet the required levels of excellence.
Pesticide Management and Application
  • Apply herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides in accordance with regulations and guidelines, utilizing Integrated Pest Management principles.
  • Record all pesticide applications as required by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
Leadership and Communication
  • Maintain strong communication with the water staff, outlining requirements and changes as needed.
Trials Supervisor and Training
  • Participate in trials, recording data and tracking finished products in collaboration with the Head Grower.
  • Train Growers on plug growing and maintenance techniques.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor of Science in Horticulture preferred.
  • 2-5 years of plug growing experience strongly preferred.
  • Applicator's license required, with a private applicator license for the state of Minnesota or a reciprocating state within 90 days of hire.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work environment is a production and greenhouse setting with few physical hazards. The business is seasonal, and environments can be dusty, warm, and humid.
