Job Summary

The Deli Kitchen Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and packaging deli food products according to department processes and standards. This role requires strong culinary skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare deli food products, including batch cooking entrees for the hot case, hot bar, and grab-and-go case, as well as salads for the salad case.
  • Maintain proper food safety standards and stay organized, prioritizing tasks and planning accordingly.
  • Fry chicken, prepare grilled chicken, rotisserie chickens, and other products cooked in the fryer/kitchen, following safe food handling guidelines at all times.
  • Provide excellent customer service, taking and filing orders over the phone and assisting customers at the service case.
  • Work with the Deli Manager or Deli Shift Lead to plan the hot case and hot bar menus.
  • Stock and rotate products on the sales floor, merchandising and building displays.
  • Assist in other areas of the department as needed, including but not limited to the meat slicer and salad, sandwich, pizza, and grab-and-go production.
  • Maintain department sanitation, including washing dishes, taking out garbage, recycling, and compost, as well as mopping floors and cleaning deli equipment.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED preferred but not necessary.
  • Prior food service or restaurant experience preferred, with knife skills a plus.
  • Must be able to clearly speak, read, and write the English language.
  • Be a positive and creative trend-setter with excellent customer service skills, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Must be honest and dependable, able to work independently and as a team member.
  • May be required to work early mornings, evenings, some holidays, and every other weekend.
  • MN Food Manager Certification preferred, may be obtained after hire.

Physical Demands

This role requires constant standing, walking, hearing, and seeing for long periods of time. Frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions, bending at the waist, reaching arm's length/above shoulders/below waist, crouching, stooping, and kneeling are also required. Climbing stairs/ladders, lifting up to 60 lbs., and pulling/pushing up to 2500 lbs. with the use of a pallet jack may be necessary.
