Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing education and training to individuals and groups on sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. The successful candidate will work with minimal supervision to conduct health investigations, analyze data, and prepare reports. They will also provide confidential counseling, testing, and referral services for individuals diagnosed with or exposed to STDs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct health investigations and analyze data to identify trends and patterns related to STDs.
  • Provide education and training to individuals and groups on STDs, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Conduct confidential counseling, testing, and referral services for individuals diagnosed with or exposed to STDs.
  • Prepare reports and documents related to job assignments, including case management and data analysis.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, hospitals, clinics, and laboratory personnel to confirm treatment and diagnosis of reportable STDs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health or a related field, or a high school diploma with 3 years of related work experience.
  • Experience working in public health or a medical/clinic environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing, and analyzing data, as well as conducting fact-finding interviews and health investigations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with state health surveillance systems, such as STARS and EHARS.
  • Florida HIV 500/501 certification.
  • Knowledge of the Florida Department of Health's mission, vision, and values.

Work Environment:

This position will be based in Tallahassee, Florida, and will require travel within the state. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment and will be required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
