Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will be responsible for performing medically prescribed nuclear medicine procedures, working under general direction, and ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate hospital and radiology information systems, accessing patient information and following HIPAA regulations.
  • Assess patient information and status, following standard procedures to identify the correct patient and ensure accurate examination requisitions.
  • Implement patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, providing clear explanations and obtaining formal consent when necessary.
  • Verify radiopharmaceutical vials, calculate activity remaining, and determine required patient doses, using a dose calibrator to verify radioactivity.
  • Position patients and equipment appropriately, adjust equipment settings, and perform filming of optimum quality, archiving data and analyzing results for physician interpretation.
  • Assist physicians as needed, using efficient methods to complete examinations in a reasonable amount of time, and maintaining cleanliness of procedure areas.
  • Implement non-imaging procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, collecting body fluid specimens, processing specimens, and operating counting equipment.
  • Prepare doses and standards properly, quantitating exact doses, and confirming calculated activity using a dose calibrator.
  • Dispose of radioactive waste according to department policies and procedures, radiation safety guidelines, and license specifications.
  • Perform routine imaging system evaluations, calibrate and dispense radioactive gas, and evaluate the performance of the dose calibrator.
  • Document all required records pertinent to quality control procedures, dose preparation, and administration, radioactive material receipt, and waste disposal.
  • Execute equipment set-up, utilization, and maintenance procedures, preparing instruments for procedures and operating laboratory equipment safely and productively.
Requirements
  • Associates Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field.
  • Completion of a Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) recognized nuclear medicine technology program.
  • Eligibility to take certification exam in Nuclear Medicine by either the NMTCB or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • New York State License (Nuclear Medicine) required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a Bachelors Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
