Responsibilities of a Hospice Support VolunteerHospice support volunteers offer vital assistance to families both before and after a patient's passing. They engage in various activities that enhance the comfort and quality of life for patients and their families. Typical responsibilities include:
- Providing regular companionship to patients and relief for family members
- Assisting with transportation for patients and family members to appointments and social events
- Helping with light household tasks when fatigue or financial constraints arise
- Staying with patients to allow primary caregivers time to rest or socialize
- Utilizing special skills such as crafting, playing games, or providing personal grooming
- Preparing simple meals
- Offering presence and support to patients in their final moments
