Position Overview

The Chemical Waste Management Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations while assisting clients in the proper disposal of waste materials. Responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the classification of chemicals based on hazard categories.
  • Package and unpack compatible materials in suitable containers for treatment or transport.
  • Conduct thorough identification of waste and ensure its proper disposal.
  • Inspect waste containers and follow standard operating procedures for disposal.
  • Complete necessary documentation for each task performed.
  • Prepare, label, and segregate consumer products and lab pack materials for final disposal.
  • Maintain logs and other records essential for tracking and billing.
  • Test material compatibility prior to consolidation for disposal.
  • Utilize chemical knowledge to assist in the safe disposal of chemical waste.
  • Receive and verify shipments of waste materials, ensuring accuracy in packing slips.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in operational areas.
  • Possess foundational knowledge of hazardous materials management and related practices.

Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of environmental protocols.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment for extended periods.
  • Physical capability to lift heavy materials and remain active throughout the workday.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline is preferred.
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of one year of relevant experience in environmental or laboratory settings is required.
