Organization Overview:
The Lincoln Center for Family and Youth (TLC) has been a pivotal social enterprise in the Greater Philadelphia Area for over five decades. Established in 1970, TLC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering innovative educational, coaching, and counseling services to public school students and their families.

Role Summary:
The School-Based Counselor is responsible for providing early intervention therapy and counseling services within designated school districts. This role includes case management and mental health support for at-risk students, as well as consultation services for school staff and collaboration with community agencies.

Key Responsibilities

Services to Students:

  • Identify students requiring trauma support and offer prevention, screening, referral, and treatment services.
  • Deliver trauma-informed therapy and counseling interventions (individual, group, and family) for at-risk youth.
  • Implement mentoring and intervention strategies for children and families facing trauma, particularly those from low-income or unstable backgrounds.
  • Manage cases for students and families needing multiple resources.
  • Provide high-quality trauma support and behavioral health services.
  • Offer home-based support for families of students at risk of trauma.

Services to School Personnel:

  • Assist educators with behavior management techniques.
  • Provide essential insights to staff regarding factors influencing student performance and behavior.
  • Train school personnel on trauma-informed educational approaches to foster nurturing learning environments.

Services to Districts:

  • Consult on school law and policy, including IDEA and Section 504 compliance.
  • Support the development of positive behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Contribute to educational program development, including safety and anti-bullying initiatives.
  • Design alternative programs for students at risk of dropping out or engaging in delinquent behavior.

Services to Parents/Families:

  • Collaborate with parents to enhance their support for their children's school integration.
  • Reduce family stressors to promote effective functioning in school and community settings.
  • Assist families in accessing community resources.
  • Address issues in a child's living environment that may impact their school adjustment.

School-Community Liaison:

  • Coordinate community resources to meet student needs.
  • Facilitate health services and intervention strategies through collaboration with various organizations.
  • Enhance communication between schools, communities, and law enforcement.
  • Improve access to trauma-informed support services and behavioral health care.
  • Advocate for enhanced community and school services to address student and family needs.
Required Skills and Knowledge

Education and Experience

Educational Requirements:
A Master's degree is required, preferably in counseling or social work. LSW certification is preferred.

This position involves working in home, school, community, and office settings.

Work Hours:
This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.

Travel Requirements:
Travel to designated schools and community settings is necessary.
