Job Summary

AOSense is seeking a highly skilled Optical Physicist to join our team of experts in quantum technologies. As an Optical Physicist at AOSense, you will design, prototype, build, and test laser systems for fieldable atom optic devices for inertial navigation, geophysics, and timekeeping.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop compact laser systems for atom-based sensors and frequency standards, leveraging expertise in optical metrology, laser characterization, and optical design.
  • Design, build, and characterize optical frequency combs and high-finesse cavities, ensuring high accuracy and stability.
  • Validate the long-term stability of photonic systems in dynamic environments, using advanced testing and characterization techniques.
  • Characterize laser performance, including linewidth, beam quality, lifetime, and other critical parameters.
  • Characterize optics, optical materials, and components, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Model laser beam propagation using optical design software, such as Zemax or FRED.
  • Transition photonics devices to manufacturing, ensuring seamless integration and production.
  • Contribute to research proposals for further development and applications, leveraging expertise in quantum technologies.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated expertise in lasers, optics, optomechanics, electro-optics, and acousto-optics, with hands-on experience in optical test equipment.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot electronic control systems for photonics devices, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • U.S. Government contracts require applicants to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Desired Experience
  • Optical frequency metrology, including optical frequency combs and high-finesse cavities.
  • Ultrafast lasers and amplifiers, with expertise in laser frequency stabilization and narrow-linewidth diode lasers.
  • Integrated photonics design and fabrication, including micro-optic and diode chip assembly and packaging.
  • Engineering software packages, such as Zemax, FRED, SolidWorks, or COMSOL.
Education

A Master's, Ph.D. (preferred), or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field, such as physics, optics, or engineering.
