Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Tax Preparation Intern to join our team at Metropolitan Family Service. As a Tax Preparation Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in tax preparation, client communication, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver free tax preparation services to low-income taxpayers using IRS-provided tax software.
  • Conduct intake interviews with clients to understand their tax situation and collect additional information.
  • Prepare accurate personal tax returns using TaxSlayer software.
  • Share information acquired at tax preparer training regarding tax-related issues with taxpayers.
Qualifications
  • Must be a current student at an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Must be 18+ years of age.
  • No tax knowledge or experience required.
  • Must complete MFS CASH Oregon's Tax Preparer Training and IRS Certification after hire.
  • Show compassion, patience, and empathy when working with members of underserved communities.

Work Environment

The work environment is an office setting, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods and stand occasionally. The position requires use of a computer, telephone, fax machine, and copier.

This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in tax preparation, client communication, and community outreach. As a Tax Preparation Intern, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse client base and develop strong interpersonal skills.
