Job Summary:

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of students with visual impairments. You will work closely with classroom teachers, educational teams, and families to ensure effective integration of instructional strategies and provide essential skills training for daily living and orientation and mobility instruction as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct detailed evaluations to determine students' needs and design individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to their unique abilities.
  • Implement targeted instruction using specialized techniques, materials, and assistive technologies to support students with visual impairments.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers and educational teams to ensure effective integration of instructional strategies.
  • Provide essential skills training for daily living and orientation and mobility instruction as needed.
  • Advocate for students' needs and facilitate effective communication among the school, families, and community resources.
Requirements:
  • Masters degree in Education with a specialization in Visual Impairments or a related field.
  • Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Relevant experience working with visually impaired students, preferably in a school environment.
  • Proficiency in Braille and experience with adaptive technologies and assistive devices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
