Deputy Building Official

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Building Official to join our team at Okaloosa County, FL. As a key member of our Building Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.

• Supervise and conduct inspections of commercial and residential projects to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
• Review and approve building plans and specifications to ensure compliance with county codes and ordinances.
• Investigate complaints and conduct enforcement actions as necessary.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and developers to resolve code-related issues.
• Provide training and guidance to building inspectors and other staff members.
• Stay up-to-date with changes in building codes and regulations, and implement new policies and procedures as needed.

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in building inspection, code enforcement, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
• State certification as a Building Code Administrator, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of employment.
• Valid driver's license.

• Experience in local government building regulation and as a licensed private general, residential, or building contractor.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations, including the International Building Code and the Florida Building Code.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
