About the Position:

This role is located at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA, which is the oldest continuously running hospital in the Navy. The medical center serves over 420,000 Active Duty members, family members, and retirees living in Hampton Roads. The team of over 4,300 Sailors and civilians work together to deliver healthcare services in various locations, including Yorktown and Chesapeake.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced patient care services, applying medical principles to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patients.
  • Interpret policies to ensure practice remains within designated privileges or recognized medical standards.
  • Exercise independent judgment in selecting and performing patient and consultant services.
  • Serve as a technical expert in reviewing, researching, analyzing, developing, and interpreting professional guidelines.
  • Use judgment and originality to devise solutions and actions to resolve issues, conditions, and problems.
  • Provide direct care, treatment, counseling, and support to patients and families.
Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, you must meet the education and experience requirements. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer work. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience, and if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirement:

You must have a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent degree from a school in the United States or Canada. The degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. You must also possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Additional Requirements:

You must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Internal Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.
