Job Title: Nurse Practitioner - Internal Medicine

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, VA. As a Nurse Practitioner - Internal Medicine, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to our patients, working closely with our healthcare team to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner - Internal Medicine will be responsible for:

  • Providing comprehensive care for acute and chronic problems under general oversight of the head of Internal Medicine.
  • Collaborating with patients and families to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • Requesting consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
  • Ordering diagnostic tests as applicable.
  • Prescribing and dispensing medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Promoting preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
  • Formulating a healthcare plan for patients and modifying the plan as needed.
Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Master's degree in nursing or higher.
  • A minimum of two years of full-time experience within the last three years as a Nurse Practitioner working in adult, family, or medical/surgical outpatient settings.
  • Graduation from an academic program in nursing accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Possession and maintenance of certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Two letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to your clinical skills, one of which must be from a physician or other supervisor who personally observed and evaluated you.
  • A current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse.
  • U.S. citizenship for access to Government computer systems.
  • BLS certification.
Compensation and Benefits:
