Job Summary:

The Penn State University is seeking a qualified part-time instructor to teach first-year writing courses in the English Composition Program. We are looking for a dedicated individual who shares our commitment to undergraduate teaching and creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and teach one to three in-person course sections (three to nine credits) per semester.
  • Follow best practices for teaching English Composition and contribute to the development of a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work effectively with diverse populations and audiences, and hold at least one office hour per three credits taught.
  • Grade student work with limited assistance from artificial intelligence and submit student progress evaluations at least twice during the semester.
  • Respond to administrative inquiries and participate in professional development activities.
  • Effectively use the Penn State learning management system (Canvas) to facilitate teaching and learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of all requirements for the M.A. in Rhetoric/Composition, English, or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate education in writing studies, rhetoric, and composition.
  • Evidence of commitment to supporting diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D in Rhetoric/Composition or closely related field.
  • Experience teaching advanced writing and/or writing in the disciplines, particularly technical writing.
  • Experience teaching multimodal composition and integrating various educational technologies.
  • Interest and experience in community-based writing.
