Helicopter Safety Compliance Officer
2 months ago
As a key member of the Federal Aviation Administration, you will act as a Principal Aviation Inspector for a significant helicopter and air ambulance certification program.
Eligibility
- Current federal employees of the FAA.
The Aviation Safety Inspector (ASI) operates under general guidance from management, focusing on broad operational goals. The ASI independently plans, develops, and executes various programs, projects, and studies. They also provide expert policy guidance to fellow inspectors on complex regulatory interpretations. The work produced is typically accepted without modification, although it may be reviewed for compliance with FAA policies and project requirements.
Some assignments at the FG-14 level involve comprehensive responsibilities that require expert knowledge of advanced multiengine turbojet aircraft avionics. The ASI is responsible for assessing all operational capabilities and limitations of these aircraft.
At this level, ASIs establish technical protocols and performance metrics, reviewing extensive flight operation programs for aviation industry leaders or similarly complex organizations. The assignments are characterized by their significant scope and complexity.
Illustrative assignments include:
1. Serving as a nationwide authority on specific aircraft types:
- Advising inspectors on major regulatory changes;
- Assessing new training methodologies and equipment;
- Participating in boards that investigate incidents, accidents, and other critical issues related to aircraft operations.
3. Exercising certificate authority and safety oversight across a diverse range of general aviation entities, such as air taxis, executive operators, repair stations, and educational institutions, where the collective activities are comparable to a major air carrier in terms of fleet size and operational complexity. The responsibilities are substantial and often necessitate the regular assistance of lower-graded inspectors.
Decisions made in this role can significantly impact the operational safety of advanced aircraft and the safety of the flying public.
FG-14 inspectors frequently engage in critical and often sensitive discussions with key officials from major manufacturers and aviation organizations to resolve issues affecting certification and operational safety compliance.
The ASI is tasked with guiding field staff in resolving challenging technical issues, addressing most problems independently while seeking management or senior specialist intervention for unique challenges. They develop strategies, techniques, and policies to tackle current and future issues, collaborating with management to implement solutions.
The ASI is expected to adhere to established laws, policies, and regulations while exercising considerable discretion to innovate and develop new approaches. They utilize their experience, initiative, and judgment to create evaluation procedures for unique problems where no precedents exist.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
