Schedule: Pool 1 - 4 shifts per month, each shift lasting 8 hours.
As an Experiential Therapy Specialist, you will be responsible for the development, planning, implementation, facilitation, direction, and evaluation of therapy programs across various specialized treatment areas. Your expertise will be utilized in an educational capacity, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and community resources. You will document activities within the designated program and possess a diverse skill set in experiential media. A solid understanding of the psychosocial dynamics of patient/resident groups and the application of expressive activities in a psychiatric environment is essential. This includes, but is not limited to, adventure-based activities, sports, dance, group initiatives, arts and crafts, music, outdoor activities, psychodrama, horticulture, and challenge courses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and assess programming across specialized treatment areas.
- Support daily departmental operations in the absence of leadership.
- Oversee and evaluate student interns.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of psychosocial functioning and expressive activity applications within psychiatric settings.
- Utilize recreational activities to assist patients/residents in applying recovery skills learned in therapeutic sessions.
- Deliver personalized treatment in a group context.
- Maintain awareness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in art, music, dance, recreation, or related therapeutic fields. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Certification or registration through the appropriate credentialing board is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license in the state of employment is required for specific assignments.
- Certification in CPR from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is mandatory within thirty days of hire, with annual re-certification.
- Formal training in managing aggressive patients is required within sixty days of hire, including self-defense training.
- Ropes and Challenge Course training by Rogers Memorial Hospital is necessary, with yearly renewal as applicable.
- Experience or educational background in working with children with mental health disorders is required for certain programs.
- Compliance with training requirements for Residential Care Centers and Community-Based Residential Facilities is necessary for applicable staff.
