Assisting the Delivery of Quality Speech Therapy

About the Role: In this position, you will work closely with licensed speech-language pathologists to provide direct support to students with speech and language disorders. Your responsibilities will include preparing instruction materials, maintaining classroom discipline, and conducting planned activities using designated methods and materials. You will also assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materials and scheduling activities, as directed by the speech-language pathologist. Additionally, you will perform checks and maintenance of equipment and assist with departmental operations, including scheduling, recordkeeping, and safety/maintenance of supplies and equipment. You will work within the district's communicable disease control plan and be aware of the existence and potential exposure to hazardous chemicals as identified on the MSDS sheets. This position requires physical ability to adhere to OSHA and district safety regulations. Attendance is an essential function of this position.
Requirements: To be successful in this role, you must hold an Associate's degree in speech-language pathology assisting, a Bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders, or a Post baccalaureate certificate in communication sciences and disorders. You must also be eligible to hold a valid Oregon SLPA license issued by the Speech and Language Pathology Board of Examiners. Physical ability to adhere to OSHA and district safety regulations is required. This position is considered a safety-sensitive position. Additionally, you must keep current on best practices for SLPA's. You must contribute productively to the school as a whole and assignment may require travel between schools. You must document student performance (e.g., tallying data for the SLP to use; preparing charts, records, and graphs) and report this information to the supervising SLP.
Essential Responsibilities: Provide high-quality speech-language therapy services under the direction and supervision of a certified SLP. Assist in working with school-age students who have been identified with speech and language disorders, including articulation, fluency, voice, auditory comprehension, and expressive language. Keep current on best practices for SLPA's. Contribute productively to the school as a whole. Assignment may require travel between schools. Document student performance (e.g., tallying data for the SLP to use; preparing charts, records, and graphs) and report this information to the supervising SLP. Assist the SLP with speech, language, and hearing screenings without clinical interpretation. Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP. Perform other duties as assigned.
What We Offer: The Klamath County School District offers a competitive salary of $26.52-$29.85 per hour, based on experience. Our full-time positions offer 8 hours per day and 178 days per year.
