Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Library Assistant IV to join our team at the Hawaii State Department of Education. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality support services to our libraries, including circulation, serials, and technical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide circulation services, including checking out and returning books, processing fines and fees, and maintaining the circulation desk.
  • Process serials, including receiving and shelving periodicals, and maintaining the serials collection.
  • Perform technical services, including cataloging and classification of library materials, and maintaining the catalog and shelflist files.
  • Assist with collection maintenance, including weeding and processing of library materials.
  • Provide reference services, including answering research questions and assisting patrons with finding information.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in library science or related field preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a library setting, with a minimum of 1 year of experience in a circulation, serials, or technical services role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patrons, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and circumstances.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in a library setting, with regular exposure to books, periodicals, and other library materials. The position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and to stand for long periods of time.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $32,220.00 per year, with benefits including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
