Job Title: Transportation Security Specialist

As a Transportation Security Specialist with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), you will play a critical role in safeguarding the nation's transportation infrastructure. Your primary responsibility will be to secure airports, seaports, railroads, highways, and public transit systems, ensuring the freedom of movement for people and commerce.

Key Responsibilities

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing effective security measures to protect travel and people
  • Working with hazardous chemicals, including explosives, in a safe and controlled environment
  • Performing physical tasks, such as lifting canines (up to 80 lbs.) or supplies, and working outdoors in adverse weather conditions
  • Working in a high-risk environment with regular exposure to weather extremes and potentially dangerous situations with aggressive dogs
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must:

  • Be able to travel outside your assigned work location between 7 and 10 nights per month
  • Meet the physical demands of the job, including walking, bending, and standing
  • Pass a background investigation and obtain a Secret Clearance
  • Meet the training requirements for the position
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SV-H Pay Band or GS-12 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience includes:

  • Applying knowledge of canine training programs, principles, and practices to ensure course content and delivery are aligned with the training objectives and organizational goals
  • Instructing and evaluating the performance of canine and handler teams and making recommendations for improvements
