Job Overview

Position Summary

Deliver advanced and basic life support transport services across local and regional healthcare facilities, including long-distance patient transfers, comprehensive patient assessment, and emergency medical services for surrounding areas. Responsibilities may vary based on the designated station and certification level.

Essential Qualifications

  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver's License, Paramedic Certification, Emergency Vehicle Operations Training (EVOC), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) 100, 200, and 700 certifications are preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to read, write, and interpret instructions effectively.
  • Proven competency in managing emergencies with basic life support equipment.
  • Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations.
  • Capable of solving practical problems in diverse scenarios with limited standardization.
  • Physical capability to lift and balance a minimum of 125 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, and navigate uneven surfaces.
  • Adaptability to varied environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and lighting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safeguard patient rights, ensuring access to care, dignity, confidentiality, and continuous treatment.
  • Operate ambulances and related equipment with safety and efficiency.
  • Uphold a professional appearance and exhibit courteous, ethical behavior while collaborating with colleagues.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of duty ambulances and equipment, ensuring proper operation and adequate supply levels.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the duty ambulance, including interior disinfection and exterior detailing.
  • Follow posted chore lists to keep living quarters clean, including sanitizing bathrooms and removing trash.
  • Depending on certification, provide appropriate life support treatment and emergency medical care while adhering to skill and training limits.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant state, local, and federal regulations regarding protocols, standards of care, and patient rights.
  • Monitor and reassess patients during transport, documenting conditions and treatments provided.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely lift and transfer patients in various settings.
  • Utilize software tools for documentation and check messages regularly for updates or corrections.
  • Gather necessary documentation from facilities to accompany reports and ensure timely submission of paperwork.
  • Respond to communications from Dispatch, navigate efficiently to scenes, and adhere to traffic regulations.
  • Upon arrival at emergency scenes, assess safety, determine the mechanism of injury or illness, and request additional assistance if needed.
  • Implement safety measures to protect patients and responders in the absence of public safety personnel.
  • Adhere to county policies regarding crime scene management and prehospital death notifications.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, medical staff, and the public in both verbal and written formats.
  • Maintain ambulances in optimal operating condition, restocking supplies and cleaning equipment after each call.
  • Report any damages, deficiencies, or safety concerns regarding vehicles and equipment promptly.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training programs as required.
  • Stay familiar with medical equipment and report to work fit for duty.
