Description
As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will conduct thorough assessments of financial and information systems, management practices, and internal controls to ensure the integrity of records and safeguards against fraud and inefficiency. Your role will involve reviewing operational processes within the County, assessing their effectiveness, efficiency, and adherence to established policies, regulations, and laws. You will also undertake additional responsibilities as directed by the County Auditor and Chief Internal Auditor.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute audits in compliance with recognized professional standards, including Governmental Auditing Standards and departmental policies.
- Conduct audits ranging from simple to complex, focusing on management operations, internal control frameworks, and financial records to ensure reliability, adequacy, and compliance.
- Perform internal audit assignments across various county departments.
- Develop audit programs, either independently or collaboratively, which include:
- Identifying the type of audit necessary.
- Choosing the appropriate audit approach.
- Outlining the audit procedures to be followed.
- Draft audit reports detailing findings for review by the Chief Internal Auditor.
- Facilitate audit entrance and exit meetings with relevant officials and staff.
- Conduct special studies and reviews as assigned by the County Auditor and Chief Internal Auditor.
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Relevant experience to grasp the fundamental principles related to the primary responsibilities of the position, typically one to two years.
- Strong analytical abilities, proficient computer skills, and excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to apply critical thinking to problem-solving scenarios.
- Capability to manage multiple projects effectively.
- Skill in prioritizing tasks while adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards and IIA Standards.
- Knowledge of risk management, risk-based assessments, and internal control frameworks, including COSO.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.
Valid Texas Driver License is required. If you hold an out-of-state license, a Texas Driver License must be obtained prior to employment.
