Department: Public Works
Work Schedule:
Tuesday and Thursday from 4 PM to 9 PM
Saturday from 8 AM to 6 PM
Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins year-round.
Compensation: Starting at $16 per hour
Objective:
This role encompasses unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks related to the upkeep, repair, and supervision of municipal buildings, parks, and facilities. Responsibilities include performing a range of manual labor tasks and safely operating various hand and power tools and light machinery. Tasks are assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent and are executed under direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive assigned vehicles and transport necessary tools and materials to job sites.
- Conduct custodial duties across various municipal buildings and parks, including cleaning restrooms, washing windows, emptying trash receptacles, and mopping floors; replace light bulbs and fluorescent fixtures.
- Utilize specialized power tools and light equipment, such as drills, sanders, saws, buffers, and vacuums.
- Perform basic plumbing tasks, such as replacing faucet washers and clearing clogged drains; paint the interiors and exteriors of municipal buildings; set up furniture and recreational equipment; install and repair recreational facilities.
- Repair door locks; maintain tools, equipment, and assigned vehicles; report safety hazards or maintenance issues to the Crew Supervisor.
- Monitor park facilities for unauthorized activities and report findings to the appropriate authorities; manage park cleanliness by picking up litter, emptying trash cans, pressure washing pavilions or park equipment, repairing fences, planting shrubs, fertilizing and watering plants, grading fields, and checking playground surfacing materials.
- Respond to emergency service calls as needed, including protecting property, repairing public facilities, and clearing debris.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
Qualifications & Physical Requirements:
- Completion of at least two years of high school education; a high school diploma is preferred.
- Some experience in similar roles is advantageous.
- Good understanding of the operation and maintenance of power tools and light equipment; familiarity with basic building repairs, construction principles, and fundamental electrical and plumbing concepts.
- Proficient in using hand and power tools and light equipment.
- Ability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Georgia driver's license (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- Physical capability to lift and carry heavy objects and perform tasks requiring bending, squatting, twisting, crawling, and climbing.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions for extended periods.
- Availability for emergency call-ins during weekends, evenings, and holidays.
