Child Life Specialist Role at Elliot Health System

We are seeking a dedicated Pediatric Care Specialist to join our team in Women's and Children's Services. The ideal candidate will possess 2 years of experience in child life services, a Bachelor's degree in human growth and development, education, psychology, or a related field, and be certified as a Child Life Specialist.

About the Position

The Pediatric Care Specialist will provide comprehensive assessment and intervention to hospitalized children and their families, promoting effective coping mechanisms through play, education, and self-expression activities. This role requires fostering positive relationships with hospital staff, patients, and families, as well as educating healthcare professionals about the psycho-social needs of children under stress.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate assessments of emotional, educational, and recreational needs of hospitalized patients and other health care experiences of children and families.
  • Promote effective coping strategies through engaging play, educational programs, and self-expression activities.
  • Prepare children for hospitalization, clinic visits, surgeries, and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.
  • Foster collaborative relationships within the hospital and community.
  • Orient/educate hospital staff on the psycho-social needs of children and their families.
  • Educate patients, caregivers, families, and the general public about the needs of children under stress.
