Position Overview:

This role involves the routine loading and unloading of materials at the yard or work site, as well as assembling load packages for delivery to customer locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trucks, or customer vehicles, ensuring proper strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent damage during transit.
  • Conducts load-building tasks, assessing the appropriate weight, composition, and arrangement of loads based on customer orders and delivery vehicle capacity to ensure safe and balanced transport.
  • Interprets work orders or follows verbal instructions to ascertain materials that need to be moved or loaded.
  • Utilizes hand trucks, electric dollies, forklifts, or other devices to transport materials from storage to designated areas.
  • Opens containers and loads materials using tools such as steel cutters, crowbars, or hammers.
  • Labels materials accurately with identifying tags or marks to ensure correct identification.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols to prevent injuries; participates in safety meetings and may suggest improvements to safety practices.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

A high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) along with three months of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Forklift certification is mandatory.

Skills and Attributes:
  • Forklift operator certification is required.
  • Familiarity with company products to understand weight, shape, and handling requirements.
  • Ability to read and write for effective handling of work orders and labeling tasks.
  • Manual dexterity and proficiency in using basic hand tools.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures related to forklift operation and materials handling.
  • Capability to apply common sense in executing detailed written or verbal instructions.
  • Competence in counting items and verifying against prepared lists.
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
  • Work is conducted in a yard or production environment, subject to varying temperatures, hazardous materials, mechanical equipment noise, and dust.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 80 pounds.
  • May require performing tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling.
