Retina Associates of Utah Prior Authorization Specialist

Retina Associates of Utah is seeking a highly skilled Prior Authorization Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing prior authorization and insurance verification functions, ensuring seamless billing and authorization processes for our patients.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize problem-solving skills to verify inaccurate information recorded in the clinic financial system, and know when to use Availity, the insurance portal, or contact the patient.
- Use good judgment in contacting the patient for discovered unforeseen issues, such as anticipated procedures not covered, large copays or coinsurance, or patient insurance premiums not paid.
- Consistently forward patients with outstanding balances to a Patient Accounts Specialist.
- Provide immediate verification of benefits as needed for same or next day added-on patient appointments.
- Provide a completed patient verification and authorization record in a timely manner.
- Maintain and adhere to the company's OSHA, HIPAA, and Compliance regulations.
Qualifications:
- Must have knowledge of current insurance companies and electronic portals.
- Ability to prioritize tasks properly.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work in multiple software programs/applications.
- Answer multi-line telephones.
- Exhibit patience and compassion.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of billing procedures and collection techniques.
- Excellent understanding of AR processes, third-party payer, and CMS regulations.
- Ability to read and understand EOBs.
- Experience using medical billing software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Self-directed with ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Dependable and consistently completes work tasks.
