Position Overview

We are currently seeking a full-time Clinical Laboratory Support Specialist. This clinical role reports directly to the Assistant Vice President of Employee Health, Laboratory Services, and Infection Prevention Control. The Specialist will be responsible for overseeing laboratory services, which includes training, competency assessments, audits, and addressing identified needs for all on-site Point of Care Testing (POCT) and laboratory services. The role involves providing guidance and support to staff conducting POCT and phlebotomy. Additionally, the Specialist will travel to various health centers to perform annual laboratory process audits and documentation checks as needed. Collaboration with the Clinical Education Department on multiple projects, including new hire and annual competency training, is also a key responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver training and competency evaluations for clinical support personnel.
  • Ensure accurate laboratory processing to reference laboratories.
  • Assist with site audits and quality assurance monitoring, identifying quality concerns and opportunities for enhancing Laboratory Services.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and updating of departmental training materials, procedures, and related resources.
  • Support the maintenance and renewal of New York State CLIA certifications.
  • Monitor laboratory data reports, including infectious disease surveillance and investigation of laboratory errors.
  • Track and oversee laboratory indicators, including abnormal results and compliance monitoring of employee requirements.
  • Maintain professional development through participation in training and educational opportunities.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites within the organization.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program is required; National Medical Assistant Certification is preferred.

A minimum of 3 years of experience working with vulnerable patient populations is essential.

Clinical skills, including venipuncture, laboratory processing, and point of care testing, are necessary.

At least 3 years of experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is required.

Compensation: Salary range is $20-24/hour.
