The Senior Underwriter will exhibit exceptional risk assessment, selection, and retention of profitable business within designated authority limits. This role necessitates a robust ability to collaborate with sales teams, brokers, and various internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with sales and service partners to present the products and plan options that align with our clients' needs.
- Assess and select risks to ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases and the sustained profitable retention of existing cases.
- Conduct thorough risk evaluations on all cases to ensure compliance with business guidelines, target profit, and metrics.
- Identify and analyze risk trends, providing recommendations for addressing these trends.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Company's products, sales, implementation, and enrollment processes, as well as market influences.
- Deliver reliable, accurate, and timely service while nurturing relationships with internal and external partners.
- Support the training, technical development, and mentoring of junior underwriters.
Qualifications:
- Proven proficiency at the Underwriter level.
- Thorough understanding of product provisions, plan designs, pricing, and contractual benefits.
- Strong technical expertise in risk selection.
- Demonstrated awareness of top-line and bottom-line objectives.
- Solid understanding of the sales/distribution process and market trends.
- Effective mentoring and coaching abilities.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to persuade and negotiate effectively.
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Commitment to quality and personal accountability for results.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this position is $53,300.00 - $95,900.00, with actual pay determined by skill, geographical location, and experience.

Unum offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits portfolio, including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution regardless of employee contributions.
